My role in the making of this book
was key: I cleaned up and modified the Quark template from
the previous edition, and improved upon the design of many
parts of the book, including the table of contents and the
section divider pages. I added some new features, such as
the tip cross-referencing guide at the bottom of each page
to save readers a trip to the index. I also redrew several
of the tables and charts to make them prettier and more scannable.
The book was created with Quark XPress
4.11, Photoshop 6.0, and Illustrator 9.0.2, in addition to
all the other applications we cover in the book. Adobe gave
us all their newest software releases (at the time) and we
pretty much learned the new features on the fly to come up
with ideas for the tips.
This job required intense coordination:
I worked very closely with the writers, the artist contributors,
our project manager, and our Peachpit editors to hone both
copy and content to fit into our layouts. I've touched and
proofread each page of this book, de-orphaned, de-widowed,
and kerned most every paragraph...to the point where it's
my first baby. (I mean book.)
